Spending

“We don't have a trillion-dollar debt because we haven't taxed enough; we have a trillion-dollar debt because we spend too much”, Ronald Reagan

Forever

Why is the Washington State budget like herpes?

Because some things last forever.

For example; unemployment benefits "were" meant to be a stop gap. To allow the unemployed time to find different work. The incentive was there was only a limited amount you could receive before it ran out. The state gives out "unlimited" benefits now so there is no incentive. I wonder how many people collecting it are from two income families? But it is free money and free only costs those who continue to work.

But there was some good news. They are actually trying to deal with rising contract COLA and pensions. Will it pass? Angry unions everywhere.

FOIA

The Freedom of Information Act is supposed allow is regular people access to (non secret) information. Why is it then that we have to sue the government each time in order to receive this information.

The latest suit is against the DHS (Dept. of Homeland Security) to provide documents about a case involving an "illegal" charged with DWI and the hit & run death of a nun.

Now why would the DHS want to withhold information on this case? Well it seems the White House is involved. I wonder why?

DOJ

Funny things are happening on the DOJ web site.

You probably didn't notice, but after Barry got elected, the stars and strips got taken down

and this was put up:

So what's the big deal?

Here's the quote on the top of the page, "The common law is the will of mankind, issuing from the life of the people."
Hmmm sounds like we're on our way to "International Law". Can that be real? Why couldn't they use a quote from Jefferson or one of the those other founding guys?

No need to worry folks. Step away from the bus (before you're thrown under it).

Define Temporary

Temporary is an ambiguous word with many meanings. At least in the state of Washington it is.
Lawmakers (love that word) and Rep. Tina Orwall want to push through HB 1977 that will remove the "expiration date" of the temporary taxes imposed in 1995 to build the Mariners Stadium. Don't get me started on the whole tax dollars used for for losers deal. Anyway, Tina wants the tax to be permanent now. Heck it only affects Hotels, Restaurants and Rentals Car so what's the fuss all about.
Well folks if you remember, we voted down the stadium. The people spoke and the Lawmakers didn't listen. Imagine that.
Want to bet Tina gets re-elected again and again. She's a dem from Des Moines and in Des Moines it's OK to be lied to. I think it's requirement.

I had to do it. Somebody had to.

Call it what you will but some if this stuff just needs to be written down.
